Nine Millimeters competed in the 2011 Millimeter National Regatta at Encinal Yacht Club, on the estuary where the club is located. Both Saturday and Sunday were great days with shifting winds of 4-8 knots and a very smooth water. The format was 6 races Saturday and 4 races on Sunday. However do to the unstable wind conditions, there were 5 races on each day. The single sausage course, finishing on the wind, was used for every race, except for two on Saturday. They were double sausages format. Staff Commodore, Charles Hodgkins, with the help of Michael Andrews, who have put on our races the last several years, did a terrific job of adjusting the course.
The starting time was delayed on both days until the wind filled in. Saturday there was a South wind turning to West with a light breeze building to eight knots with a few puffs a little higher. Sunday the wind was from the West, but very shifty. With the two throwouts the scores were close.
Pax Davis won the Gold Fleet with Randy Smith second and Aaron Lee third in a closely contested three boat race. Liam O’Flaherty won the Silver Fleet with Greg Owens second and Paul Turner third.
The annual dinner was enjoyed by all Saturday night at the Encinal Yacht Club with the company of Staff Commodore Hodgkins.
Thanks go to the Encinal Yacht Club for putting on the Regatta.
