MILLIMETER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS SEPTEMBER 2018

On a perfect weekend of weather, the Encinal YC, in Alameda, conducted the racing for the
Millimeter Class. The turnout was light, but those that were racing had a good time.
There were six races on Saturday. The conditions were light and shifty, between a south and a west wind.
The races were all windward leeward of various lengths. The key to winning a regatta with 10 races and
two throw outs is to win as many individual races as possible.
Chris Davis won three races to lead the series over Aaron Lee, who won two races, by one point after six races. There is one throwout
after five races and two after eight races. Pax Davis was three points back in third, having won one race.
Sunday brought a steady 4-6 knot breeze shifting from southwest to northwest. The courses were the same, varying in length.
Aaron brought his "A" game and won three of the remaining races to win the championship, his third one. The interesting
results were how well Bill Fruchterman progressed through the series and also guest skipper, Steve Anderes. The fleet was
much closer towards the end of the first day and into the second day. Bob Scholl joined the fleet on Sunday.
The fleet had the traditional dinner Saturday evening. We were joined by Liam O'Flaherty, who had an injury and could not sail.
Liam delivered the trophies and shirts. Many thanks to John Hansen for running the regatta as he does for all the small boat
racing during the year. The fleet appreciates the support of the Encinal YC.
